Volunteer! Join the Streamwalk! Take action for clean water!
Be part of an effort to inventory the health of the Lamprey River from the headwaters in Northwood to tidal waters in Newmarket.
What will I be looking for?
Areas of significant erosion, patches of invasive species, tree shading, trash, discharge pipes or culverts, and other signs of stream health. Volunteers will use maps and written checklists to identify areas needing follow-up restoration or further investigation.
What experience do I need?
None. All volunteers will be provided training and equipment. Volunteers will work in teams of two during the summer of 2008. Walking in the river will be the most common means of observation. Access by kayak or canoe may be necessary in some sections.
How much time will it take?
About three hours per section of river that you sign up for. Volunteers can expect to receive about three hours of training prior to doing the Streamwalk. You choose when to go on the river between late May and August.
Training Dates and Location
Monday, June 2, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. – Epping Safety Complex, Rt. 27, Epping
OR Wednesday, June 4 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. - Lee Safety Complex, Bennett Road, Lee
Where will I do the Streamwalk?
Volunteers can choose where they would like to do the Streamwalk. Complete a section anywhere you prefer. Stream sections will go from bridge to bridge or other easily accessed points.
